Commerce Kickstart 2

Been Productive

I have got a lot done since my last post.  I have 1 site that has gone live (MadameWiladina.com) after 4 months work.  It is an online store that sells lingire.  So far the feedback has been very positive.

The other website I am working on is a site that is another online store. This one is for selling artwork.  As with the MadameWIladina site, this one is using Commerce Kickstart2.  They do look a lot similar (since I used the same default template for both sites) but under the hood both sites are quite a bit different.

I've been down but I'm not out

Time flies when I am pulling out my hair.  I have been through so many things, much to many to have kept track here.

What have I done over the last 4 months?

  1. I rebuilt my VM, upgrading to a newer version of Debian LINUX
  2. I rebuilt my web server implimenting Nginx, Mariadb, php, and Drupal.
  3. Survived a major security breach in Drupal v7.33
  4. Transitioned all my Drupal sites to the new web server (so eveything is in one place now).
  5. I have just completed upgrading a friend's e-store from Zencart to Drupal Commerse Kickstart 2.

The sky has fallen, the sky has fallen

Well, my attempts at learning Omega 4 was a total disaster. It turns out the Omega 4 uses Sass and in order to use Sass one must install all kinds of other program/tools. The procedure for windows was tedious and ended up not working very well so I figured I would install it on my LINUX VM but ended up being just as frustrating and in the process of trying to get Sass installed I ended up hosing up the OS. I ended up reinstalling LINUX twice because the first time reinstalling it I upgraded everything and ended up with incapability issues (guess I need to learn much more about LINUX before doing anything as advanced as upgrading php to 5.5 and drush to 7) but I finally got things up and running again and I decided to abandon Omega 4 for the moment. I got Aegir back up and running and installed a couple of distributions, Commerce KickStart and Bahai Incubator

Distracted

My old gig has been diverting me lately but I haven't forgotten where I'm pointed.

The weekend was productive.  I installed a CentOS VM on my Windows 2012 machine.  CentOS is quite different from Ubuntu but in doing some reading I decided it was best not to upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04, but to instead go to CentOS.  It is the free LINUX that is based off Red Hat.  The install went off pretty well.

Its been a while

I have been really busy the last few day. On Saturday I finished the Views tutorial. It was very enlightening and its nice to be able to understand the makings of the different content types. I ended up using what I learned the next day after starting the Commerce KickStart Tutorial. Unfortunately the distribution changed a lot since the tutorial was done. It was a struggle but I did get a version of Drupal up that allowed me to be able to follow the tutorial, but that also meant that I had to use my lesson on Views to recreate some of then different content-types used in the commerce package. I felt proud to be able to figure that out myself.
