I just spent the day completing a Lynda.com course. I just completed the "Simplified Drupal Sites with Drush" course. The Certificate can be viewed here. It was a very good run-through of Drush basics. I feel a lot more comfortable with Drush. Using Aegir I have had to become a bit more comfortable with it and this course has simplified my making use of it. Now that I have completed the course I do wish I would have known more about it earlier on.
In my last post I mentioned having rebuilt my web server 10 times. Well, It did not stop there. It seems like that has been all I have been doing for the last 2 months. I can say at this point I am finally at a point where the web server is stable enough and I can finally get back to working with Drupal.
Time flies when you have to rebuild your web server at least 10 times...
The last month took forever in one regard, and in another it went by fast. I was running Ubuntu 12.04 and that came up on EOL (End of Life) the first week of August and in reading about the upgrade I decided NOT to upgrade to the next level of Ubuntu (was reading something about them not using a LTS (Long Term Support) release for their kernel so I decided to move away from that).
Well, my attempts at learning Omega 4 was a total disaster. It turns out the Omega 4 uses Sass and in order to use Sass one must install all kinds of other program/tools. The procedure for windows was tedious and ended up not working very well so I figured I would install it on my LINUX VM but ended up being just as frustrating and in the process of trying to get Sass installed I ended up hosing up the OS. I ended up reinstalling LINUX twice because the first time reinstalling it I upgraded everything and ended up with incapability issues (guess I need to learn much more about LINUX before doing anything as advanced as upgrading php to 5.5 and drush to 7) but I finally got things up and running again and I decided to abandon Omega 4 for the moment. I got Aegir back up and running and installed a couple of distributions, Commerce KickStart and Bahai Incubator.
I can't seem to catch a break lately. I started the task of learning Omega 4 (a theme creator module) so I can begin my next project, building a website for my class reunion. I figure this would be a good project to start practicing all the tutorials I have been going through.
